About Morgan Stanley
Morgan Stanley was born in 1935 as a direct result of the Glass-Steagall Act, which forced J.P. Morgan & Co. to split its commercial and investment banking businesses. Henry S. Morgan (J.P. Morgan's grandson) and Harold Stanley left to form Morgan Stanley, capturing the premier investment banking business.
Following the 2008 financial crisis, Morgan Stanley made a strategic pivot under CEO James Gorman to focus heavily on Wealth Management (acquiring Smith Barney, E*TRADE, and Eaton Vance). This created a highly stable, fee-based revenue stream to balance out the volatile trading and M&A advisory business. The firm operates major technology and operations hubs across India.
