About Axis Bank

Axis Bank began its life in 1993 as UTI Bank, promoted by the Unit Trust of India (UTI) alongside LIC and GIC. It was one of the first new-generation private banks in India. It rebranded to Axis Bank in 2007 to establish a distinct, independent corporate identity.

Today, Axis is the third-largest private bank in India. It has been incredibly aggressive in the retail space, particularly in digital payments (UPI leadership), premium credit cards (Axis Magnus/Atlas), and wealth management through its highly successful 'Burgundy' brand. It recently acquired Citibank's India consumer business.
