About Flipkart

Flipkart was founded in October 2007 in Bengaluru by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, both former Amazon employees. Initially selling books, it pioneered e-commerce in India by introducing 'Cash on Delivery' (CoD), solving a critical trust and payments barrier for Indian consumers.

Flipkart rapidly expanded across categories, acquiring fashion retailer Myntra in 2014. In 2018, Walmart acquired a 77% stake in Flipkart for $16 billion -- one of the world's largest e-commerce acquisitions. Flipkart operates independently under the Walmart umbrella and has spun off or integrated businesses like PhonePe and Cleartrip.
