About Asian Paints
Founded in a garage in Mumbai during World War II when paint imports were banned, Asian Paints grew to become India's largest and Asia's third-largest paint company. It is famous for its mascot, 'Gattu' (created by R.K. Laxman).
What makes Asian Paints legendary in the corporate world is its supply chain. In the 1970s, it bought the first supercomputer in India outside of ISRO/IIT to forecast demand. Today, it completely bypasses wholesalers, delivering paints directly to over 70,000 retail dealers multiple times a day. The company has effectively transformed from a paint manufacturer to a comprehensive 'home décor' provider.
