About Cognizant

Cognizant was founded in 1994 in Chennai as a captive technology unit for the American data analytics firm Dun & Bradstreet. In 1996, it began serving external clients, and by 1998, it was spun off as an independent company and listed on the NASDAQ. Unlike Indian IT firms that expanded to the US, Cognizant is a US firm that built its delivery engine in India.

Cognizant grew incredibly fast in the 2000s and 2010s by aggressively reinvesting margins into client-facing roles in the US and Europe. It is particularly dominant in the Healthcare and BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) sectors in North America.
