About Dell Technologies

Dell was founded in 1984 in Austin, Texas by 19-year-old Michael Dell as PC's Limited, selling custom-built IBM-compatible computers directly to customers via telephone -- bypassing retail. The company listed on NASDAQ as Dell Computer Corporation in 1988 and became one of the world's largest PC manufacturers.

Michael Dell and Silver Lake Partners took Dell private in a $24.4 billion buyout in 2013. In 2016, Dell acquired EMC Corporation for $67 billion -- the largest technology acquisition in history at the time -- creating Dell Technologies and bringing VMware into its portfolio. Dell Technologies relisted on NYSE in 2018.
