About Intel

Intel was founded in Mountain View, California in July 1968 by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore, who had previously co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor. Andy Grove, who became a pivotal figure in Intel's growth, joined as an early employee. Intel initially produced memory chips before pivoting to microprocessors.

Intel's x86 processor architecture, introduced with the 8086 in 1978, became the standard for personal computing. The company dominated microprocessor manufacturing for decades. Pat Gelsinger, who returned as CEO in 2021, launched Intel Foundry Services to compete directly with TSMC in contract chip manufacturing.
