About MakeMyTrip
MakeMyTrip was founded in the year 2000 by Deep Kalra. Initially, the site was targeted at the US-to-India travel market for NRIs (Non-Resident Indians), as the Indian internet and digital payments infrastructure was still nascent. In 2005, recognizing the rise of low-cost carriers in India, MakeMyTrip launched its Indian operations.
The company survived the dot-com bust and grew to become the undisputed leader in Indian online travel. It went public on the NASDAQ in 2010. In 2017, MakeMyTrip orchestrated a massive consolidation in the Indian travel market by acquiring its biggest rival, the ibibo Group (which included Goibibo and redBus).
