Mphasis was formed in 2000 through the merger of US-based IT consulting firm Mphasis Corporation (founded by Jerry Rao and Jeroen Tas) and Indian IT company BFL Software. The company has a unique ownership history: it was majority-owned by EDS, which was later acquired by Hewlett Packard (HP). In 2016, HP sold its controlling stake to private equity firm Blackstone.
