About Oracle

Oracle was founded in 1977 in Santa Clara, California as Software Development Laboratories by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates. It was renamed Oracle Systems Corporation in 1982. Oracle Database, first released in 1979, was the first commercially available SQL-based relational database management system.

Oracle went public in 1986 and has grown through significant acquisitions including PeopleSoft (2005), Sun Microsystems (2010), and NetSuite (2016). The company relocated its headquarters from Redwood City to Austin, Texas in 2020.
