About Reddit

Reddit was founded in 2005 by University of Virginia roommates Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian as part of Y Combinator's very first batch. The platform was built around user-generated content, upvoting/downvoting mechanisms, and interest-based communities called subreddits.

Reddit has grown into one of the internet's most visited websites, hosting over 100,000 active communities. In March 2024, Reddit went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: RDDT). Its business model spans digital advertising, community marketplace features, API data licensing for AI training, and Reddit Premium subscriptions.
