About Tesla
Tesla was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, with Elon Musk joining shortly after as the largest shareholder and chairman. Tesla shattered the perception that electric vehicles (EVs) had to be slow and ugly by releasing the high-performance Roadster, followed by the mass-market Model S, 3, X, and Y.
Tesla operates more like a Silicon Valley software company than a traditional Detroit automaker. It bypasses dealership networks with direct-to-consumer sales, pioneered over-the-air (OTA) software updates for cars, and is building massive vertically integrated 'Gigafactories'. Beyond cars, Tesla is deeply invested in AI (Full Self-Driving, Optimus robot) and energy storage (Megapacks).
