About Titan

Titan Company Limited was formed as a joint venture between the Tata Group and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). In the 1980s, it disrupted a market dominated by HMT's mechanical watches by introducing sleek, modern quartz technology watches, transforming the watch from a functional tool to a style accessory.

However, Titan's true massive success came in the 1990s with 'Tanishq'. By introducing the 'Karatmeter' to measure gold purity, Tanishq brought transparency, trust, and corporate branding to India's highly unorganized, jeweler-dominated gold market. Today, Tanishq accounts for the vast majority of Titan's staggering revenues.
